Springbank Hill Planning & Development Update

Changes to the Area Structure Plan

There are several ongoing applications to increase density in Springbank Hill. For a synopsis see the Planning Issues section of the community website at

http://springbankhill.org/news_and_events

The Community Association supports an update to the ASP and understands that the City, Planning and Council are all looking for increases in density and intensification. There is also a shortage of retail and mixed-use development in the Community. However, we have been consistent in enforcing the current plan and the formal process for amendments. Any increases in density must take into account roads and traffic, transit, infrastructure, environmental reserves, green space and pathways and the needs of the residents and the character of our neighborhoods.

There are two current applications that SBHCA has not supported and two planned applications for increases in density. As concerned citizens and neighbours, we encourage you to share you viewpoints with us at planning@springbankhill.org and with Councillor Pootman's office.

You can also follow progress of the City’s review of 17 Ave SW, between 77 Street and 85 Street on the City’s website by entering the search field “Springbank Hill” at Calgary.ca

casino night
sept 6-7, 2014

The Springbank Hill Community Association’s next Casino is set for Saturday September 6th and Sunday September 7th. The Casino is an amazing fundraiser and generally raises over $60,000 through this 2 day event.

Casino funds have paid for many of our community enhancements such as Springbank Hill playground renovations, Springborough Regional playground, the new Spring Valley playground being built May 2014, Springbank Hill ice rink.

We have many exciting new projects in the planning process for 2014/2015 including community signage, new ice rinks, and upgrades to our existing rink.

The Casino Chair is Fiona Christiaansen and she will be in contact with the community in late Spring to fill the volunteer positions. Even if you have never done this before…it is easy – and fun! Chip running, Cashier, Banker, Count Room Supervisor…there are many roles.
